AmiSSL
|
AmiSSL is an Amiga port of OpenSSL. It is a library that makes it possible for Amiga programmers to write programs that use SSL (for example, web browser authors would use it to add support for HTTPS protocol).
The 68k version of AmiSSL v3 comes in a single installation archive. It restricts the usage of some ciphers based on the country selected in Locale settings.
For AmiSSL v1 and v2, there are two options for downloading the installation archives. The first option is to get the full archive and install it. The second option is to get the base archive (which contains everything that full archive does except IDEA, MDC2 and RC5) and possibly some of IDEA, MDC2 and RC5 archives.
The choice should be based on whether IDEA, MDC2 and RC5 are protected by patents in your country. If none of them are patented, you should download the full archive. If at least one of them is patented, you should download the base archive and the archives you are allowed to.
By downloading any of these archives you agree to take take full responsibility for selecting the correct country in Locale settings (for AmiSSL v3) and download of ciphers that might not be legal in your country. AmiSSL authors take no responsibility for potential legal problems resulting from download and/or use of these ciphers.
The following are some recommendations for choosing which AmiSSL v1 and v2 installation archives to download which may not be correct. If in doubt, consult a lawyer.
If you are in the USA, you should download only the base archive.
If you are in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland or United Kingdom, you should be able to download the base archive and MDC2 and RC5.
In other cases, you should be able to download the full archive.
To install from the base archive and additional cipher/message digest archive(s), unarchive them to the same directory and start the installation script.
Note that AmiSSL v3 is not a replacement for AmiSSL v1/v2 nor is AmiSSL v2 a replacement for AmiSSL v1. These three can coexist if you are using programs written for different AmiSSL versions. For example, AWeb 3.5.07 uses AmiSSL v1, IBrowse 2.3 uses AmiSSL v2 and, at the time of this writing, the latest betas of AWeb and IBrowse use AmiSSL v3.
It is strongly suggested to choose the same directory for all three AmiSSL versions when the Installer scripts ask where to install AmiSSL.
